Your Top Questions, Answered Here!
What is the class structure ? You’ll start off with a few easy to follow warm up routines set to a mix of awesome music, followed by a few upbeat and heartrate increasing jams. Once your body is warm, the instructor will lead you through simple Highland technique, moving onto steps and dances as the session progresses. Strength and muscle-targeting routines are next, ensuring a whole-body workout without overdoing it. You’ll feel happily exhausted by the end, ready to stretch and relax into the gentle cool down.
What if I am new to exercising, or haven’t in a long while? No worries, these classes are perfect! Because our classes are structured to let you participate at your own pace, you should feel accomplished and pleasantly worked out whether you’re starting at zero or coming in from a marathon.
What should I wear to class? Comfortable, form fitting clothing that won’t get in their way as you move. Your feet can be barefoot, in runners, in highland dance ghillies, ballet slippers, or any other type of dance shoe. Socks are slippery, so take them off or cover them with shoes of some type!
Do we need any special equipment for the program? Nope! Other than a water bottle, all equipment is provided.
What if I’ve never danced before? That’s perfect! Highland Pulse classes are designed for newbies and returning-after-a-hiatus dancers alike. The pace is such that whether you danced when you were little or have never even seen Highland before, you’ll be successful and have a great time.
I have Highland danced before, is this the right place for me ? That depends! Are you looking for a workout with Highland mixed in, or have been out of it for more than 15 years? This is the right place! If you are a more recent Highland dancer looking to push and improve, you might prefer our Highland Dance classes.
Are there multiple session options? We offer 3 sessions throughout the year; Fall, Winter, and Spring.
What is your stance on dieting or workout culture? We work hard to achieve body neutrality for our Highland Dancers, and we push the same in our Pulse classes. No diet or body talk allowed! We strive to appreciate our bodies for what they are doing for us, rather than cutting them down. We appreciate your commitment to the same ideals when you are in our spaces.
